MTCares 2019 Year in Review: Millennium Trust Takes Community Outreach to New Level

“2019 was an amazing year for MTCares,” says Senior Human Resources Coordinator, Becky Karnoscak. “More employees got involved, and support from the company increased, which allowed us to really give back and make a significant impact on our community.”

A company-wide initiative that organizes community fundraising and volunteer efforts on behalf of Millennium Trust, MTCares gets its direction from employees who recommend charities that are near and dear to their hearts. The employee-decided priorities addressed in 2019 were event sponsorship, community development, health and wellness, the environment, disaster relief, culture and the arts, and animal welfare.

In 2019, the overall amount donated by Millennium Trust to MTCares was increased from $35,000 to $100,000, with $14,000 donated by Millennium Trust employees. Employees also donated over a thousand items, including clothing, shoes, books and their time.

MTCares currently works with four anchor charities (a fifth will be selected by our Pittsburgh office this year). They are:

  • Wellness House in Hinsdale offers support groups and programs for cancer patients and their families. Several Millennium Trust employees and their family members have taken advantage of their services in the past.
  • Aspire in Chicago offers programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities, helping them become more self-sufficient. They offer the Career Academy several times a week where young adults participate in different scenarios, learning skills for jobs in restaurants, offices and factories. Millennium Trust interns and members of MTCares spend a day at the Career Academy each summer.
  • Poised for Success, based in Lombard, collects clothing and other items for women interviewing for jobs or starting careers who might not be able to purchase business attire. They also provide interview training and referrals to job placement organizations.

  • Soles of Hope, now an official nonprofit organization, was started by Millennium Trust employee, Fred Yeboah, and his wife to give back to his native Ghana. Employees at our most recent holiday party helped decorate lunch boxes and stuff company-donated backpacks with employee-donated school supplies. Fred accepts donations of any kind, especially shoes. “As long as they have soles, we’ll take them,” says Fred.

“We really live up to our name – MT Cares,” says Tracy Lashley, Client Service Specialist, Retirement Services. “We care about all aspects of giving at any level. As individuals, we give our time and money to large and small organizations. Our mission and goals are reflective of Millennium Trust as a whole: we really enjoy giving back to the community.”

In 2019, MTCares hosted several activities for employee participation, including:
